Interview With H. Joseph Ransom

The following interview with H. Joseph Ransom of StageFrightz Productions was conducted on May 3, 2006, by LR&R Productions.

Q: Who are you?

HJR: H. Joseph Ransom, the “movie guy” & “writer guy”. I write the majority of the material for StageFrightz and direct the films.

Q: What is StageFrightz?

HJR: Film group, web site, source of my insomnia.

Q: Why do you make movies?

HJR: I made a UFO Mockumentary - mostly for therapy at the time - and I found I just couldn’t stop. The weird thing is, filmmaking both stresses and relaxes me at the same time. So I guess you could say it evens me out. Also, it helps give me a chance to take particular dreams/nightmares I’ve had and "put them to rest", in a sense. Plus, it gives me the opportunity to take stories I have in mind and put them in a form I can watch on TV, with the hope that others will enjoy viewing them as well.

Q: What is the goal of StageFrightz and yourself?

HJR: An immediate goal is to finish “The Barrows Man”! I regret having to keep posting “We’re still working on it..., etc. etc.” for so long. I also want to finish the “book” - the collection of short horror stories I’m writing. I’ve finished four tales so far, and hope to put some samples on the web page by the end of the month (May 2006). And of course, finish the other projects we have lined up. As for releasing the films, information on that will be posted later, but the films will at least be made available through this web site. As for myself, I definitely want to continue my still photography, as well.

Q: What projects are you working on?

HJR: OK. Here goes:
“Trapped In The House Of Midnight’s Bloom” (short film) - complete except for editing; should be finished within a week
“Up To Snuff” (short film) - need one scene at beginning and one scene at end, then editing
“Aftershocks” (short film) - need a couple of establishing shots, voice-over
“Another Hitchhiker” (short film) - need to film the driver part
“A Night In That Room” (short film) - needs more filming, but over half has been shot
“The Barrows Man” (feature length) - needs additional filming
“N-Specters” - 1st chapter completed and awaits editing...
“The Death Of Blesseder Smith” (short film) - COMPLETED!
“Me...Alone!” (short film) - to be filmed
“A Snipe Hunt” (feature length) - to be filmed
“The Clown Stalks At Midnight” (short film) - to be filmed
“Smiles!” (short film) - to be filmed
“So I Made A Zombie Or Two” (short film) - to be filmed
“(Name to be Determined - film about a telekinetic mercenary)” - to be filmed
an unnamed werewolf script - to be filmed
an unnamed vampire script - to be filmed

* Plus, will be collaborating with LR&R Productions on:
“The Last Boys” (lAst, not lOst) - camera work
“GI Joe: ARAH Documentary” (pending) - editing work
“Painted” - camera work
“Trial By One” (Killer Clown Drama) - camera work
“America’s Most Unwanted” (killer top 10) - camera work

Q: Who do you admire and appreciate?

HJR: All the people who have helped me with my goals so far.

Q: How is working with friends?

HJR: Working with people I know has often been more difficult in some ways, than in working with "new" talent, in that it’s sometimes awkward, as I would imagine teaching your own child in school would be. But it's also good in that I know their strengths and so forth, plus the “trust” is already there. I enjoy it, but also like working with fresh faces, as well.

Q: Who acts in your movies?

HJR: I’ve worked with local talent, out-of-area talent, experienced, medium experienced and inexperienced people. If you mean names, make sure to catch the credits!

Q: Who all helps?

HJR: See above. Plus, LR&R Productions has been helping with the myspace.com page and recruitment for new talent.

Q: Are you working with any other directors, writers, etc.?

HJR: LR&R Productions, plus a few actors in StageFrightz projects have also been directors or writers of their own projects at one time or another.

Q: Do you have anything to say to your future fans?

HJR: Well for one, thank you for reading to the end of this interview. And two, I hope we’ll make some stories (film and the book) that you’ll really enjoy. By design, I’m sure not every film will be for every horror fan, but there should be enough variety to cover most everyone’s “niche” with the lineup so far and projects that haven’t been announced yet. Thank you all.
